CHANCE FRACTURE AND PARASPINAL AND EPIDURAL HEMATOMA
The axial CT scan demonstrates the presence of a fracture involving the vertebral body (arrow) associated with fractures involving the posterior elements bilaterally (single arrow head).
There is associated paraspinal hematoma which is layering in an extrapleural location (horizontal single arrow heads). There is associated hemorrhage within the spinal region representing epidural blood.
VERTEBRAL BODY FRACTURE WITH RETROPULSION AND CANAL COMPROMISE
The axial CT scan shows the presence of a fracture extending through the vertebral body (double arrow heads). There is retropulsion as a result of disruption of the posterior column of the vertebral body which has resulted in spinal canal compromise greater than 80%.
