Action: Pronounced stimulation of both beta-1 and beta-2 receptors of the heart producing a drop in BP.
Uses: Cardiac arrest, heart block and syncope due to complete heart block. Also certian arrythmias including v-tach.
Dosage: 1-3 ml of 1:50,000 solution. ..initial dose 0.01-0.02 mg IV, then repeat when necessary.
Side Effects: hypotension, precordial pain, hyperactivity, wheezing, pulmonary edema, paradoxical airway resistence.
Precautions: Do not use any beta-adrenergic blocking agents as they reverse the effects, elderly patients should
receive a lower dose, monitor for restoration of stable heart rythm with increased BP and Cardiac output.
