Description
An extra heart sound due to rapid ventricular filling.
 
Type and Detection
 
Heard over apex; while patient is at at supine or left lateral position.
 
Findings on Examination
 
Early diastolic low pitch extra heart sound. Increases with inspiration, exercise, elevation of legs, and with increased venous return.
