An extra heart sound resembling the sound of a galloping horse, due to fast heart rates. |
| Type and Detection |
Heard over apex; while patient is at at supine or left lateral position. |
| Findings on Examination |
Low pitch presystolic, intense, easily heard sound. Increases with inspiration, exercise, elevation of legs, and with increased venous return. |
| Heart Sound Components | S3 and S4 fuse with fast heart rates. |
