Morphology: colonies on blood agar produce a narrow zone of beta-hemolysis, Gram positive rod arranged in V- or L -shaped formations, organism shows tumbling movement, catalase positive, oxidase negative

Route of transmission: food, congenital

Investigations: Gram stain and culture

Diseases:

Pregnancy-associated and neonatal listeriosis

Meningitis

Food borne listeriosis

Treatment:

IV Penicillin/Ampicillin + Gentamicin

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (used in patients with penicillin allergy)
