The following is the list of sites that allow the viewers to participate in an active form with other individuals and scientists on the Internet.
- BIOSCI: The definitive set of bionet newsgroups. Searchable archives from Agroforestry to Xtallography. Currently, their archive search engine does notwork, but the newsgroups are still the main source of interaction between biologists on the internet.
- GNA: Global Network Academy; A Non-profit consortium of educational and research organizations. Dedicated to distance learning courses.
- VSNS: Virtual School of Natural Sciences; A member of GNA, and host to a number of biologically orientated courses conducted over the internet.
- BCD: BioComputing; A course on Biocomputing held over the internet. It uses a combination of e-mail, WWW, and interactive tutorials held weekly on BioMOO (See below). Next course starts April 1996. Interested individuals can register for this course.
- PPS2: Principles of Protein Structure 2; A fully accredited course offered over the Internet. It is the follow-up of the highly successful PPS1, held Jan-Jun '95, by Birkbeck College (University of London). The course is held mostly via e-mail and WWW, but some sessions are interactiver. Registration for 1996 has already started.
- BioMOO: BioMOO is a virtual meeting place for biologists. Within BioMOO, biologists can interact in real time with other biologists. Fully interactive (text-based) connection is via telnet. The BioMOO world is also web-aware, and can be accessed for multimedia viewing by web browsers. Also, the BioMOO world can be explored in 3D by VRML 1.0 browsers. Once VRML 2.0 specifications are available, it is hoped that BioMOO will be 3D interactive.

Decoy = Ability to launch a decoy file, in an attempt to get the virus to attach to that file.
Disinfector = Ability to disinfect/remove infected files.
Heuristics = Heuristic scanning for unknown viruses.
Integrity checker = Detects if file has changed it's integrity (File size, etc.).
Memory resident = Program with the ability to stay in memory, while scaning for viruses and/or preventing them.
Rescue Disk = Ability to create a rescue disk, in case of system failure due to viruses. Usually includes backing up the bootsector (MBR), CMOS, and partition table.
Scanner = Normal virus scanner.
Virus demos = Gives examples of virus activity through demonstrations.

A new version of this program advertised as [PKZIP300.EXE or PK300.EXE] may have a virus hidden in some of its files. When attempting to run the self extracting portion of the file, the virus formats the hard drive. Our recommendation is not to download this new application.
