The formula above is just one of the many correct ways to determine the dose of medication for your patient.
Here is an example problem. Use this formula to calculate the correct dose.
A physician orders you to administer 3 mgs of Morphine IV to a patient who has pain from burns. You have a 5 ml vial that contains 10 mg of Morphine.
How many mls will you administer to your patient?
A physician orders you to administer an IV of Normal Saline at a rate of 375 mls per hour. You have an
administration set that is 15 drops per ml. How many drops per minute will deliver the proper volume in
an hour?
